Brief Introduction
Marty has over 40 years’ experience as trial and appellate counsel, having tried hundreds of cases across Ontario. He is a former Senior Partner at Borden Ladner Gervais LLP. He has a wealth of experience in handling a wide variety of complex and multi-party cases including class action proceedings, banking, insolvency, fraud, employment, estate, real estate, environmental, defamation, partnership, shareholder and other business disputes. He has appeared before all levels of courts in Canada, including the Supreme Court of Canada, and regulatory, administrative and arbitral tribunals.
Marty is recognized as a leading practitioner in Canada in the areas of banking and financial institutions litigation. Throughout his career, Marty has been the lead in this sector for a vast variety of cases including retail banking disputes, lender liability, receiverships, insolvency, security enforcement, bills of exchange, financial and payment instruments, letters of credits, civil fraud, breach of trust, breach of fiduciary duties and class actions.
In addition, Marty has represented clients in the petroleum industry and has acted as trial counsel in a variety of environmental cases.
