Barry Leon, a Canadian, is an independent arbitrator and mediator with Arbitration Place (Canada), Arbitrators@33Bedford Row (London), and Caribbean Arbitrators. Barry is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (FCIArb) and an International Mediation Institute (IMI) Certified Mediator. He is experienced in arbitrating and mediating corporate and commercial, contract, shareholder and business breakup, intellectual property and technology, natural resources, and construction disputes. As Presiding Judge of the British Virgin Islands’ Commercial Court (2015 – 2018), Barry presided over international commercial disputes involving parties from around the world and was a founding member of the Judicial Insolvency Network with judges from leading international commercial courts. Barry served as an arbitrator and mediator prior to, and occasionally during, his judicial term. He was Chair, Arbitration Committee of ICC Canada and is a Fellow of the International Academy of Trial Lawyers. He has received numerous recognitions in international arbitration and other areas. Barry received the 2013 CPR “Award for Outstanding Contribution to Diversity in ADR”. Barry writes and speaks on arbitration and mediation, and teaches (ad hoc) on international arbitration. He has spoken on fraud and asset recovery, and insolvency. He is an active member of numerous international arbitration organizations, serving in executive positions and on task-forces and commissions, and organizing/chairing conferences and events.
