Milos Barutciski has helped define international trade practice in Canada throughout his 30+ year career advising clients in all aspects of international regulation and compliance. He brings incomparable wealth of experience to all client matters, offering strategic and inventive advice with a business-focused acumen second-to-none.
Milos has represented Canadian and international clients in matters relating to trade and investment law including NAFTA and WTO matters, export controls and sanctions, foreign corrupt practices, product regulation, customs laws and international dispute settlement, as well as foreign investment review and competition law.
His clients include Fortune 500 and leading international and Canadian companies whom he has represented in anticorruption, export control, sanctions and cartel investigations across five continents. These matters include investigations by Canadian authorities (RCMP, Canada Border Services Agency, Competition Bureau, Global Affairs Canada, etc.), as well as investigations by the U.S. Department of Justice, the Securities & Exchange Commission, the European Commission and the World Bank's Integrity Vice-Presidency.
As a leading lawyer in the industry, Milos has been retained by several Canadian government agencies in relation to international compliance matters. He was also engaged by the Government of Canada (1994-1995) to negotiate competition law cooperation agreements with the U.S. and the E.U. and by The World Bank (1996-1999) to advise on regulatory reform in the Middle East and Africa. Milos has testified before federal and provincial Parliamentary Committees and has been invited to address WTO and NAFTA Working Groups, trade officials of the People's Republic of China and the Republic of India, and foreign business organizations on international business matters.
Milos is a member of the Executive Board of the International Chamber of Commerce. He chairs the International Affairs Committee of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce and was a founding member of the Task Force on Bribery and Corruption of the Business and Industry Advisory Committee to the OECD. Milos is a Past President of the International Law Association (London, UK), a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation and a Past Chair of the International Law Section of the Canadian Bar Association.
