Dr. Seong-Joon PARK is a distinguished expert in intellectual property (IP) law, with significant contributions to both national and international IP organizations. He is currently a Professor of IP Law at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science & Technology (KAIST). Previously, he served as the President of the Korean IP Trial and Appeal Board (IPTAB) under the Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO) from 2019 to 2020.
Internationally, Dr. PARK's expertise has been recognized through prominent roles within the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), where he chaired the 46th WIPO General Assembly and the 25th and 26th Standing Committees on the Law of Trademarks (SCT). Additionally, he led the TM5 international cooperation forum in 2013.
In Korea, Dr. PARK has significantly shaped IP policy through his work as Director General of various bureaus at KIPO and the Presidential Council on IP.
Dr. PARK also has played key advisory and leadership roles, including as a member of the Health and Medical Trade Advisory Committee under the Ministry of Health and Welfare, and as an Advisory Patent Attorney for the National Institute of Biological Resources. He is also a Board Member of the Asian Patent Attorney Association (APAA) Korea and the Licensing Executives Society (LES) Korea.
He is a Korean IP lawyer and a licensed attorney in the State of New York, USA as well. For his achievements, he was honored as one of the "Top 100 People Who Shined in Korea" in 2022.
Dr. PARK holds a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Arts in International Law from Korea University, and a Master of Laws (LL.M.) and Juris Doctor (J.D.) from the University of Iowa School of Law.
