Brief Introduction
Peter Neumann is an independent arbitrator based in California and the Hong Kong/Greater Bay Area and is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. Mr. Neumann is professionally fluent in spoken and written Mandarin Chinese and has conducted arbitral proceedings and drafted awards in Mandarin Chinese. He is listed on the arbitrator panels of leading arbitral institutions in China, Asia, and the U.S. and has handled a variety of disputes spanning technology, finance, and energy industries. He is experienced with corporate, M&A, shareholder, and commercial disputes, often occurring in cross-cultural and bilingual contexts.
Prior to becoming a dispute resolution neutral Mr. Neumann was based in China for over 20 years where he practiced cross-border corporate, in-bound and out-bound M&A, and FDI law with Greater China and Asia-Pacific coverage. He previously served as the Shanghai Managing Partner of international law firms, Asia Pacific General Counsel of a Fortune 500 chemicals company, and Deputy General Counsel -- Asia of a leading PE fund manager.
He graduated from Dartmouth College (A.B., 1984) with high honors in Chinese language and literature, studied law at the UCLA School of Law (J.D.,1989), and holds an LL.M. in International Commercial Arbitration from the Pepperdine University Caruso School of Law, Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution.
In addition to serving as an independent arbitrator, Mr. Neumann also teaches International Commercial Arbitration as an Adjunct Professor of Law at the Straus Institute and is a Foreign Legal Consultant with the Robertsons law firm in Hong Kong.
