Anette Kavaleff started, after academic assignments at the faculties of law at the University of Helsinki and at Stockholm University as well as working for the Nordic Council in the 1980’s, working as company lawyer at the Finnish power company Imatran Voima Oy and later at its successor Fortum Corporation. Her tasks over the years have covered issues related to international commercial law, long term contracts, project finance and energy law, including nuclear law. In the 1990’s she worked in the business unit IVO Energy International as Director of Investments and Project Finance, where she shared responsibility for the investments in power projects in the UK, Germany and South-East Asia. She has also been involved in M&A in the Nordic power sector, notably Fortum Corporation’s acquisition of the Stora Enso power fleet in Sweden and Finland in 2000. In 2000 she founded her own firm and started to counsel the members of the Finnish energy Industries Federation (Finergy). Her largest appointment from 2002 onwards has been acting as owner’s lawyer for the Olkiluoto 3 Nuclear Power plant project. From 2003 she has also acted as sole arbitrator in several disputes under the Arbitration Rules of the Finland Chamber of Commerce (FAI), in addition to assisting her clients in dispute resolution.
