Brief Introduction
Roy Martin QC called to the Scottish Bar in 1976, taking silk in 1988. He called to the Bar of England and Wales in 1990 becoming a ‘double silk’ in 2008. He was also admitted to the Bar of New South Wales in 1987. He was Dean of the Faculty of Advocates between 2004 and 2007. Throughout his career at the Bar, Roy has practised primarily in the areas of land and administrative law. He has appeared in many of the most significant inquiries which have taken place in Scotland and appeared as leading counsel in the House of Lords and the Supreme Court. He has acted as Arbitrator and Counsel in a range of domestic and international Arbitrations and is a Judge of the Courts of Appeal of Jersey and Guernsey. Roy is recognised by both Chambers UK and Legal 500 law directories as one of the leading silks at the Bar. The latest edition of Chambers UK (2018) describes him as ‘a QC who is clearly at the top of his game’ and ‘a commanding presence in court’. He has served as a Temporary Sheriff and a part-time Chairman of Industrial Tribunals. He is a Chairman of Police Appeals Tribunals and was a member of the Judicial Appointments Board for Scotland. He served as a Co-chair of the Forum for Barristers and Advocates of the International Bar Association and of the International Council of Advocates and Barristers. He served as an Honorary Professor of the University of Glasgow School of Law and is an Honorary Member of the Australian Bar Association and a Bencher of Middle Temple.
