Brief Introduction
Dr. Nicolas Rouiller is a practicing attorney-at-law and a partner at SwissLegal Rouiller & Associés Avocats SA (Lausanne and Geneva).
He completed a doctoral thesis at the University of Basel in 2001 and was admitted to the Swiss bar in 2002; since then, he has been active as a lawyer in Switzerland, in litigations (as counsel or arbitrator) and in legal advice.
From 2005 to 2021, he worked as visiting professor at several universities in Moscow, notably at the Finance University under the Government. He was member of the Scientific Consultative Council of the Court for Intellectual Property Rights of Russia from 2013 to 2021. He currently teaches international business law at Business School Lausanne (since 2004) and at the University of Applied Sciences of Western Switzerland (since 2021). Since 2021, he is also Deputy Judge, in Switzerland, at the Intercantonal Court for Litigations related to State Licenses for Lotteries and Similar Organisations (TJAR/GSG).
He has been active since 2019 as an expert for the United Nations Center for Preventive Diplomacy in Central Asia, in relation to enforcement of legislation regarding new payment methods like cryptocurrencies. Since 2021, he has been active as expert for the Special Rapporteur of the UN Council of Human Rights on unilateral coercive measures (economic sanctions).
In parallel to his professional practice and to frequent contributions to legal journals or conferences, Dr Nicolas Rouiller has published 20 books on Swiss and international contract law, on legal aspects of banking practices, on inheritance law and on company law (in the French, German, English and Italian languages).
