OH Soogeun, Professor Emeritus of Ewha Law School (Korea), is a leading scholar in Korea on insolvency law and corporate law. He has published widely in the fields of company law and insolvency law, including Insolvency Law Reform 1998-2007 (2007), Understanding of Insolvency Law (2008), and Insolvency Law - Cases and Materials (2012).
He taught corporate law and insolvency law for over 35 years at the universities. He gave lectures on insolvency law in many occasions, including for outside directors (2003-2019), and delegates from Mongolia (2000) and Vietnam (2002). He has participated in the IMF workshops on insolvency since 2019.
He established the Korean Association of Insolvency Law in 1998, pioneering discussion and research on insolvency law issues. He served as the Chair for the Special Committee to revise Korean Insolvency Law from 2001-2004 and 2008-2010, where he drafted the insolvency laws currently in force in Korea. In 2009, He co-founded the East Asian Association of Insolvency and Restructuring with Japanese and Chinese insolvency specialists, which has held annual conference every year.
He has held representative posts for the Korean government in international organizations, including the World Bank, IMF, and UNCITRAL, since 1998. He chaired the 42nd Commission Session (2009) and Working Group III (2010-2014) of UNCITRAL.
He has chaired the Committee for Rehabilitation and Bankruptcy of the Supreme Court of Korea since 2013. He is also editor-in-chief of KLRI Journal of Law and Legislation since 2018.
