Brief Introduction
Eduardo Benavides is head of the international practice of ECIJA in Peru. His areas of practice are Corporate and Contract Law, International Transactions and International Arbitration.
He is the immediate Past Chair of EuroChambers (the Association of European Chambers of Commerce) in Peru, Vice-Chair of the British Peruvian Chamber of Commerce and Secretary and Board Member of the Swiss Chamber of Commerce and the Association of Binational Chambers of Commerce.
He has been the Chair of the Americas/Middle East Division of the Section of International Law of the American Bar Association (ABA), and Co-Chair of the Latin American and Caribbean Committee. He is a current Member of the Council of the Section of International Law and a Board Member of the Latin America & Caribbean Council of the ABA Rule of Law Initiative. He is also a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation.
He is a Contract Law Professor at the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Peru’s Master in Business Law Program, and has been a Law Professor at the Law Schools of the Universidad de Lima, the San Marcos University and at the MBA Program of ESAN University in Lima. He is also a visiting Professor in several Law Schools in different countries.
Eduardo has acted either as Party-Appointed or Court-Appointed Legal Expert in more tan 60 international arbitration cases (ICC, CIADI, Uncitral, ICDR, etc.) and has presented Expert Opinions and been examined before arbitration panels in the US, Spain, the UK, Netherlands and France. He is one of the founders of the Arbitration Center of AMCHAM Perú, former Member of the Court and has a record of more than 30 years as a recognized arbitrator. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.
He is the author of several books and articles on Contract Law. Has served in several National Committees for the Review of the Peruvian Civil Code and Commercial Code.
Eduardo Benavides has been elected to the Who’s Who of Professionals and quoted Recommended Lawyer by Chambers and Partners, “Which Lawyer?”, Best Lawyers Leaders League and by Latin Lawyer 250.
He has law degrees “Summa Cum Laude” from the Pontificia Universidad Catolica del Peru, in Lima, and the HSF in Heidelberg, Germany.
